Triumphs of 2022
2022 was a year of improvement, success, and forward motion. We applaud everyone who set their sights on bettering their situation and self through goal setting and strategic planning.
Each one of our clients is stellar. In their words, Zemi would like to share a few of the amazing accomplishments and inspired goals that transpired over the last year.
Some goals take extra planning, time, and effort. We call these “Above and Beyond Goals:”
Finish a half marathon!
I have been working on learning how to cook. As part of this goal over the past months I have purchased a cookbook and for Christmas for an air fryer, knives, cutting boards, etc to help me accomplish this goal. I am continually working on it.
I have wanted to improve my Spanish since I started working with the Boys & Girls Club, especially since a lot of our parents are Spanish speakers. So, I set a goal to be able to understand and speak Spanish better by the time winter break happened. I spent 15-30 minutes a day doing Duolingo, and practiced my conversational Spanish with family, coworkers, and parents. I recently took a quiz on Duolingo that says I have improved 18% since August.
I set a goal of making one new recipe a week. I started this in the summer and I am continually accomplishing this and trying to maintain this habit every week. I plan to work on this every week.
I want to walk for 30 minutes on the treadmill every weekday. I have been working toward this, but I have been very sporadic. I hope to commit more this time.
My goal for the last few months has been to start EMDR with my therapist. This type of therapy takes Prep work through many different therapy sessions and at-home exercises. Starting in a few weeks e we will finally be getting to the EMDR part which will be really hard but also really rewarding when I am able to get past my triggers and have an overall more mentally stable existence. I've been working on this since June 2022.
My goal was to be better organized and intentional about how I spend my time. I purchased a planner, and I've been faithfully using it for about a month. I lay out exactly what I hope to accomplish each day and mark off when tasks are completed. I found that I would sometimes end a day not even knowing what I really spent my time doing. I also kept forgetting when I'd schedule appointments. The planner has been so helpful! I feel like I'm accomplishing a lot more, and I no longer forget about scheduled appointments.
Other goals are more short-term, because lots of little habits are what add up to an overall awesome wellbeing! With such monthly goals, we focus on bieng SMART: specific, measurable, action-based, realistic, and time specific.
By the end of November spend five minutes, three times a week, meditating. I used two apps to help me achieve this goal. The first app is my breathe app which reminds me to breathe or pause and reflect at the beginning and end of each day. The second app is a meditation app to prepare for sleep. I found it especially helpful at nighttime when I wanted to relax.
Go to the gym 4 times during the holiday season. To reach this goal I am creating a workout notebook to keep me organized and motivated. I set my goal to be planned for by Thanksgiving so that I can be prepared entering the holiday season. I accomplished this goal by working with a friend to stay accountable and work towards this together.
I've been working on going to the gym at least 3 times a week. I did this by commuting to pay for the child watch at my gym and going at the same time each day. I'm actually really enjoying it and my mental health is better as a result. I've gone 3 times this week already, I might up my commitment to 4.
My goal for this month was to be more present when I'm at home. I scheduled my day and blocked out the time that I'd be home in the evenings. I made sure not to bring my laptop home so that I wouldn't be tempted to continue working in the evening. I also kept my phone on my dresser, so that I wouldn't be tempted to scroll through my phone until I fell asleep. I was able to have more conversation time with my husband, and I was able to play with my dogs more. I easily get caught up in work stuff and social media rather than being present with my family. It was nice to read books, watch tv with my husband, or play with my dogs. Scheduling my time was helpful in doing this. Sometimes I don't realize how much time I spend on work, so it's good for me to actually plan out my days.
My goal is to go on at least a 20-minute walk every day. I plan to get up earlier than 10:00 to achieve this goal. I have alarms set. My dog is also hyper in the mornings so it's the perfect time for him as well. It also works with my job schedule. I worked hard and accomplished this goal.
My goal was to buy healthy groceries, My plan was to include them in my budget, research what healthy foods I could get, and actually use them.
My goal was to go on a morning walk before work M-F. It has been harder for me to get up in the mornings since it is cold so I bought some warm accessories so I wouldn't have an excuse. I went to bed earlier so that I would have enough time before work to do it. I am still working on doing it daily but I have been getting it in more often than I was before.
My goal was to not overeat during the holidays and avoid the glutinous feeling. To do this I set a habit of going to the gym every day and I also increased my protein intake so that I got full on nutritious foods before all the sweets. I accomplished this by staying focused but not being too hard on myself even if I wasn't perfect at it.
Aren’t these awesome?! We love that wellness is such a broad topic that includes not only fitness and nutrition, but time management, relationships, self-development, mental finesse, and more. It is wonderful to see so many people find success. The results are endless: more energy, better focus, happier family life, increased savings, less waste, fewer aches and pains… a better you!
Zemi looks forward to what this next year will bring!
