Eat In Season
Why we should eat seasonally
It wasn’t until my late 20’s that I learned about the local Farmer’s Markets in town. The first time I visited one, I was amazed at all the fresh produce and local meats and dairy. I was in heaven. I knew that my purchasing power just got a lot healthier, and I also knew that by purchasing through a Farmer’s Market I was supporting the local farmers. Here are some more reasons why we all should all try eating seasonally.
Eating seasonally can help you save money.
If you are looking to save some cash, eating seasonally is a great way to do it. Food is often cheaper in season because there is more of it available, so you can buy more for less money. Growing your own produce is another way to save money while getting fresh ingredients straight from the garden.
You can try new things and experiment with new recipes when you eat seasonally.
If you are tired of eating the same thing over and over again, eating seasonally can help you get out of that rut. There are so many different types of produce available during each season that it is easy to find something new and exciting to try. Need a new recipe for that in-season vegetable that caught your eye? There are plenty of websites that specialize in seasonal recipes. It is healthier!
Eating seasonally means eating foods that are in season and locally grown. This is important because it helps you to support your local community which can be beneficial for the environment and your health.
Additionally, seasonal produce contains more nutrients than out-of-season produce does because they are picked at their ripest moment. Seasonal foods also tend to have fewer pesticides and additives because they do not have to be shipped long distances or come in a can.
There are lots of reasons to eat seasonally and stay healthy!
To sum it all up:
Eating seasonally helps farmers by supporting their local economy and ensuring they have enough customers during the off-seasons when crops may not be as plentiful or profitable.
Eating seasonally helps you save money by buying produce that is in-season and cheaper so you can put your hard-earned cash toward other things like travel or new clothes!
It gives you more incentive to experiment with new recipes that use seasonal ingredients, which is fun for everyone involved!
Seasonal food is more nutritious due to its freshness and being picked at its ripest point.
Many fruits and vegetables are only available for a short time each year--so if you miss out on them now, you’ll have to wait until next year.
I hope you are inspired to try eating seasonally. It is a great way to get healthier, save money, and help the farmers, who need your support.
